By The Bee Gees
If you happen to find yourself trapped in the Way Back Time Machine and it is late 1977 this is what you will find as the dominant sound – The Bee Gees classic Staying Alive
No doubt this song had an immense cultural impact. And nothing written here will capture what a huge defining era hit this song was.
Written specifically for the movie soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever, the Bee Gees hit rocketed to the top of the charts and a music era – DISCO – had its anthem.
Barry (primary vocals), Robin and Maurice Gibb, with their flowing hair and falsetto voices created the perfect/iconic message and sound for an era that featured white leisure suits, polyester pants, barely buttoned shirts, and the idea that it was cool to take your dance talents onto a strobe-lit dance floor.
In looking at the video today I had to chuckle because I remember this era quite well. It begs to ask the question: What were we all thinking? It’s great.
Truth be written; I never really could disco dance with the likes of John Travolta. None the less, at least at that time in my life, I never once considered cell service.
